The idea of the Superorganism has fascinated me since I first heard the idea expressed and it kept coming to mind as I read bits and pieces of "A Thousand Plateaus" by Deleuze and Guattari and their philosophy of the rhizome. It also sooths the guilt I've felt for the cynical observation that the greater part of society (any society) seems to find comfort, contentment and reassurance in the idea that they are mindless and ineffectual unless part of a greater whole and are therefore allowed a certain amount of freedom from choice. Which is OK, we all just want to live. I remember as a child being reminded to "think before you act," but what would it be like if we also (just for shits and giggles) tried to think before we did nothing? Sorry, I digress. It is an interesting phenomenon.
